Great Camp Sagamore - Lake George Tips
Thie two-hour guided tour begins with a DVD presentation that gives an overview of Adirondack Park history and introduces you to W.W. Durant who built three Landmark camps at Raquette Lake in the Gilded Age. The walking tour interprets the history of the workers who built and maintained the camp for the Vanderbilts and shows you the red board-and- batten buildings in their “workers” or “caretakers” complex. Next you follow your guide to the bark-covered Vanderbilt guest buildings including the famous Main Lodge that served as a model for the NPS lodge buildings and the beautiful dining hall overlooking Sagamore Lake. Complete your visit at your own pace by viewing the permanent exhibits interpreting the workers, guides, the Durants, and the Vanderbilts. (More info)
