Prospect Mountain - Lake George Tips
Prospect mountain is a favorite destination for many. It boasts a one hundred mile view. Easily accesible by car or foot you will be rewarded with a scenic views of Vermont's Green Mountains, New Hampshire's White Mountains, New York's Adirondack High Peaks and, on a very clear day, the Laurentians of Canada. To drive to the top you will have to pay a nominal fee for each car. There are three scenic overlooks before reaching the main parking area. Once parked you have the option of taking a shuttle or a short paved hikig trail to the summit. To hike to the top be prepared for a short but challenging ascent. The hiking trail is about 3 miles round trip and the mountain is 2,030 feet high.
- If hiking the trail pay close attention to the red trail markers
- There are picnic tables on top of the mountain
- You will also find remains of the world's largest cable railroad and a fireplace of the once popular Prospect Mt. Hotel
- The highway is seasonal (Memorial Day through late October)
- The hiking trail is accessible year round
Driving Directions:
- From 1-87 take Exit 21
- At the end of the ramp turn towards Lake George
- At the traffic light turn left onto Route 9
- Approximately 1 turn left at the sign for Prospect Mountain ( Prospect Mountain Veteran's Memorial Highway )

- From 1-87 take Exit 21
- At the end of the ramp turn towards Lake George
- At the traffic light turn left onto Route 9
- When you reach Lake George Village turn left on Montcalm Street
- Montcalm Street ends at the trailhead for Prospect Mountain
- Once you climb the first part of the trail turn left and use the footbridge to cross over Rt. 87
- It is easy to lose the trail so keep your eyes open for the red trail markers
